Triple play in the city
I had such an amazing mini-break!! Granted I was completely exhausted from it all and had such much work to do in the end, but it was worth it. I got to enjoy all the things that I love in condensed time, it was awesome.
I am not a Valentine's Day person at all. I just think it's a Hallmark holiday. Prices are jacked up and why do you need one day to express your love to someone? It should be 24/7. Plus, I think it's mean to those who are or choose to be single, it's just not a very considerate holiday. I usually just get Kevin a card and a pair of Vday boxers, nothing big and crazy. Well this year, it just so happens that my matchbox twenty concert falls on this day. Not to mention it was also Rob's birthday.
It was so hard leaving right as soon as my kids left. I didn't even know under contract, what was the earliest I could leave. I saw the custodian as I was leaving and he was so shocked. He actually made me wait as he tried to make sense of my leaving early. He said to me, "No, you're not really leaving. You're coming back. Wait, seriously, you really are going home?? Hang on, let me check the windows. Oh look, it's snowing and hell has frozen over!" Then on the way downstairs, I ran into the security guard and he got all excited because he thought his shift was over until he realized that I was leaving early and not normal time. I'm sure these are all signs that I really need to leave earlier!
The train ride into the city was a bit icky. There were couples all over each other, I won't even get into what I heard and saw. It was just too much, even my iPod couldn't protect me from what was surrounding me. I made it into the city just in time so Kevin and I went for dinner at our Korean restaurant. I also got Pinkberry for dessert, of course! We missed the first opening act and we caught Alanis Morrisette as the 2nd act. She was okay, I wasn't that impressed.
How was matchbox twenty? They were amazing as usual. This is now my 4th time seeing them. I just love that you get your money's worth because they play for a good amount of time and it's always entertaining to hear his stories. He sang a lot of songs that I wanted to hear but unfortunately he didn't do the one song I was hoping for. Since it was his birthday, they brought him a cake and we all sang, then they shot out crazy amounts of confetti into the air. I definitely had a great time, it was a perfect night. Kevin took some videos of the newer versions of songs I liked but my singing in the background totally ruined it. But it's all good, he ordered me the USB bracelet with MP3s of the concert so I should be getting it soon!
Their introduction was really cool. The whole spaceman and bright lights - they came out playing their newest single.
During one of the songs, all the lights were turned off and we were told to use our cell phones as the lights of the show. It actually was really cool to be sitting there in the dark and seeing all the pretty colors being given off by the cell phones. I actually saw some of the "old school" phones giving off that green light. After Rob got serenaded by his fans, they exploded all this confetti all over the place!
Then on Saturday, it was right back out the city with the girls. We went to see Altar Boyz. I had gotten us really close seats, we were the 4th row from the front. At first, it started really cheesey and I started having doubts. But it actually was really funny and a whole lot of fun. They make it seem like you really are their last concert. Some of the songs and moves were hysterical! During one of the songs called "Girl You Make Me Wanna Wait", the lead guy was walking around and serenading a few girls. Originally my seat was supposed to be the aisle but then Beth took it. The lead guy, Matthew, went to grab Beth's hand and he actually pulled her onstage! It was so funny! The entire time he's singing to her about how he's going to wait until marriage for sexual relations. Towards the end of the song, he starts singing about how since he's going to wait, he'll just have to "master...." and of course we all knew what he was going to say. Instead he sings, "master....my faith."
After the show, we went to dinner at the Rare Bar & Grill. We were all enticed by the french fries tasting basket. It was interesting but just too much greasy foods in one sitting. We ended the night back at Jess' and just hung out. They actually had gotten me a cake to celebrate my bday early. As soon as I got into the kitchen, I ran to the fridge in search of a soda. I completely didn't even notice the huge cake box, but the girls were freaking out thinking I would've seen it. It was definitely a fun and "interesting" night.
Then on Sunday, I headed back out to the city for a Rangers game. They won, it was so freaking awesome! Especially because so many calls were not made by the refs, I was happy to see our team win. It was the first time I got to see an empty-net goal too! Poor Lundqvist got his goalie mask knocked off and lost his hockey stick. If he only knew that I would've run out there and picked it all up for him! That winning game was definitely the cherry on top of my sundae!
Rangers celebrating their 2nd day victory! Lundqvist was given 3 stars!
Since it was an early game, we decided to walk around the city for a bit. I had already gotten my Pinkberry before the game (yes, it was my lunch). They have a new coffee flavor, it tastes just like Dannon's Coffee Yogurt which I love. We headed out to Chinatown and went bag shopping first. I was good, I stopped at 2 - trust me, I could've done more but I just told Kevin I would stop looking. We glanced at some jewelry and then I picked some cool things from the Elizabeth Center. I was really craving the shiao long bau and porkchops so we went to Green Bo for dinner. I was smart, I ordered the shiao long bau first as we were waiting for our table, that way as soon as we sat down, we got to eat something. On the way back home, we went to pick up some Bubble tea and lychee drinks for the ride home.
These past few days were much needed. It definitely made me forget about all the things that have been happening during the past month. I truly was happy with the time I was spending with the people I love and doing the things that I enjoy the most. The only one gripe is that on Monday, my mother told me that matchbox twenty was in Chinatown (in the same area that I was at the night before) doing some sort of photo/video shoot. Dang, it would've been so cool if I saw them up close and personal.
