Close to perfection

How gorgeous was the weather this past Saturday? It was perfect timing for our trip into the city. Kevin and I had tickets to see Avenue Q. I thought the show was cute and funny! It was definitely like Sesame Street for adults. For us, it wasn't like side-splitting funny, but only because the stuff that was said didn't shock us at all. But be warned, there are definitely profanities and pervy jokes made. Not to mention a "sex" scene - I knew about it but I never pictured it the way it was performed. They did some really cool things with the set but I don't want to ruin it for anyone. I didn't try to take any pictures but they are extremely anal about their no pic policy. You would get yelled at if they saw you with a camera. The girl next to me actually used the flash and took a pic of the whole cast as they were ending their song. A few minutes later, a man came around and took her camera away. I'm assuming he can only delete the pictures and not keep the camera.

After the show, we just walked around. Kevin took us to South Street Seaport because I always love giving him a hard time for taking his lunch breaks there without me. Since it was so sunny and nice out, I decided to wear a dress and my new kicks that day. Big mistake - the espadrilles killed my feet! The back of my heels were all cut and the thought of taking another step was too painful to imagine. These are definitely only good for a few hours, not to walk around all day. I didn't listen to my better judgment (and Kevin's concern before we left). We tried looking for any pair of sandals that would fit my feet. Of course my tiny feet meant that I was basically SOL. Eventually, we found a store and one of the sales ladies saw my shoes and understood my ordeal. She was pretty hilarious and we chatted for a while. We both started talking about how cute shoes always hurt and at the same time, we shouted that they're definitely "man made!" Poor Kevin stood there, thinking we'd hurl some display shoes at him. She started telling me that I should ask to buy display shoes and demand a discount because of the light damage and that everyone has put their fingers on them. She told me that I could pull the Asian card, being all cute and tiny. Then she said if that didn't work, I could always point to Kevin and threaten them with his Bruce Lee moves. She then proceeded to say that she pulls the Black card and says, "Now don't make me get angry!" In the end, I purchased the only flip flops they had in my size. They definitely weren't comfortable either but I needed anything to alleviate the heels. Too bad they didn't have an Old Navy there.

We went to dinner at Cabana. The view from our table was gorgeous. I'm a HUGE paella fiend so I ordered the paella marinera and I was in heaven. I recommended to Kevin to try chuletas and his dish was delicious too. Normally I'm used to chuletas with caramelized onions, theirs was different but very meaty tasting. The waiter was able to tell that I could speak some Spanish by the way I ordered so when he came around, he had to stop himself from going full-fledged on me.

Before taking the train home, I had to stop for Pinkberry. After all, I declined on dessert at the restaurant just to save room. They were soo busy! I was happy that they had mochi again but they skimped on the toppings that night. There were definitely a lot of things I wanted to do that Saturday but I wanted to save them for other gorgeous days.

I couldn't have asked for a greater day. Thanks revolving door partner! Happy 7!

Skipping to dessert

Dah, too many days went by without posting. So I'm just going to give you the "wham, baam, thank you ma'am" version.....

  • Susan and Matt are now engaged! Congratulations!!
  • Balls to the wall went well and I even got a semi-noogie
  • Even the crazy Nor'easter couldn't keep us from our play. I was soaked completely, boots, jeans, even my entire armpit area down to my sides. It even started to massively leak, even though it looked like a small waterfall to me, inside the theater. But regardless, I LOVED In the Heights! It's a mix of hip hop, salsa, and merengue - right up my alley. The girls enjoyed it too and gave me the thumbs up for my choice. For some reason, they were switching everyone's seats and we got bumped closer, 4th row in the front.
  • Played hooky with the girls and went shopping instead of working. Nine hours of fun times (we stopped to eat twice). We also tried on a lot more stuff than we bought, every sales person's nightmare. Oooh, I got more yummy teas and introduced them to it as well. Strangely that day, a lot of other shoppers felt the need to spill their life story to me. They'd bump into me while browsing and then just strike up this massive tell-all conversation.
  • My uncle 6 is back from HK/China and everything went well! So I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. He got Cinny a bunch of outfits so I will slowly be posting those.
  • Rangers brooming their way into the semi-finals! Thanks to Kevin, now I have a nice newspaper page of Lundqvist taking off his mask.

My uncle sent home a box of chips and snacks for me. I love the brand Calbee but flavors are extremely limited in the US. He also got me this light changing clock (he's amazed by it so I'm pumping my excitement up for him), and the Keroro! The head just sways from side to side, going "la la, la la, la la". Okay, I just make that sound.

Thanks, but no thanks

Here's to hoping for a much better week! This past week has been hell - from serious crap to the tiniest annoyances. I'd love to take all those emotions felt, put them inside a bottle and trade them in for something shiny and cheery. Goodbye fear, frustration, stress, sadness, helplessness, loss, and pains. Hello to smiles, fun, laughter, and rocking out so loudly with my trusty hairbrush!

All that I can do is just sit back and see how things flow. So in the mean time, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that:

  • the deer anxiety will settle down
  • all that time & money spent for the car fiasco was well worth it
  • the fainting/blacking out was a one-time deal
  • family stuff will be rewarded with the risks, and that acceptance leads to moving on
  • time lost = boost!
  • I'll always remember that I am better than this and I won't let anyone tell me differently

Deer veer!

While driving home before, I had quite the scare! A deer ran across the highway out of nowhere and I barely missed it. Luckily I was able to swerve and brake in time. I really thought I didn't have a chance because of the speed that I was going out. I wasn't speeding, just highway speed limit. At that moment, the memories of the accident from years ago came flooding back and I became hysterical. I don't think anyone can fully understand how much damage a deer can do until they've gone through it. It took me so long to be okay with driving down that road, without being crazy paranoid and alert. Now, because of those 30 seconds, the anxieties are back.
