Astiga-wha?

I finally went in for an eye exam this morning. I've been putting it off for years since my issues really weren't that bad. I mean, the only problems were that I had issues reading lit signs, white fonts on signs, and that I couldn't read road signs until I got really close. Other than that, I was functioning quite well.
First of all, the pre-screening tests, holy crap! I went into a room with this round table with like freaking 5 million machines all around it. It reminded me of an eye torture chamber. My eyes probably got worse from them putting me through all those tests. Remember how I said I don't deal well with the bright lights and whiteness? Well, one test had me staring into this bright white screen. I would have to click the button whenever I saw these rods shaking. Oh yeah, they also blocked off one eye while you did this. I was like way to set me up to fail! I would have to say the worst was the evil "eye puff" test. When I was out in the waiting room, this little Asian boy (probably 7-8 years old) was whining about how he didn't want one. I was thinking to myself how bad could it be? Uhm yeah, now I know why he didn't want it, cause it sucked! I hate things going into my eye and now here's this machine that shoots this hard force of air into your eye! The worse is that you don't know when it's coming. I actually jumped out of the seat the first time so they had to do it again. Who invents these things? Speaking of that little boy, the doctor thought he was my son! Dude, do I look like someone that would have like a 8 year old? Why do people have to assume all Asians are related somehow?
After all that pre-screening fun, I went in to see the eye doctor and had some more tests. I was looking through this crazy machine and he kept flipping all these lenses and asking me which sets looked clearer. There were quite a number of sets where they all seemed to the same to me so I just randomly picked one of them. I know that's bad but I told him they looked the same and he said to pick the one that was a bit better. Then he asked me why I decided to come in and I told him my silly reasoning.
So what's the verdict? Well, my eyes are good in the general health sense, woo hoo! I am near-sighted but it's really not bad at all. Oh and my whole lit signs issue, that's because I have an astigmatism. I'm so relieved to hear that I wasn't just having issues where my brain refused to let me read white font or something! Also, my left eye is worse than my right eye. The doctor was telling me that if I took a driver's license test right now, my left eye would probably fail. Bad left eye, such a loser! I should use the glasses for looking at distant things (signs, blackboards, etc) and the lit menus at places. He told me I could try using them in theaters since it could make it even clearer.
I never thought picking out frames would be so hard. I really really wanted someone to go with me to tell me which ones looked good but I totally got the brush off. My uncle works there so he was helping me but since he makes glasses, his advice couldn't be whether it was pretty or not! I mean, in all honesty, that's really the help I wanted. I was stuck between 2 pairs, I really like the new thick plastic nerdy ones but I know those are a trend right now. The sales lady said the thick framed ones were too busy on my face and since my prescription was low, she said there wasn't any sense in getting ones that obvious. My uncle told me the best glasses to pick out were the ones with a mixture of plastic and metal, and since I lack that bridge on my nose, I should go with ones with the squishy pads. Basically, everyone said no to the thick nerdy ones. Dude, but they were D&G! I love how my uncle pointed out that it would match my bags! So I went with the first pair I grabbed, they're a mixture of plastic and metal and I get my thick fix in a way with the sides. I love the color, they're this amber/brownish color and the inside is like this burnt orange. The guy who put the finally touches even gave me an orange case! He brought it out and I guess I gave him this shocked face since I'm used to seeing cases in black and blue. He was like, "Ohh, I can give you black or something." I told him I wanted the orange, there's no way you'd miss it and plus since my bags are huge, I'd be able to find them in a second. He laughed at me and gave me the "typical girl" face, hah! I think he thought I was obsessed with orange since my jacket was a shade of orange and so were the glasses in a way.
I think I look smarter with them on. It's so funny how people used to pick on kiddies with glasses, especially the nerdy glasses. But now, the nerdy plastics are the hottest thing and you actually look S-M-R-T in them! Things are so much brighter and clearer! Since I'm a first-timer, things are kind of bubbly around me so it's going to take some getting used to. I tested them out by a light. Without glasses, this sign looked blurry and I figured it was a picture advertisement. I pop the babies on and holy crap, I see words! I also gave them the menu test. I went to Chick-fil-A with Bach before and I was able to read the menu! The lady at the counter laughed at me when she heard what I was saying. I still need to give them the night test with reading road signs. Maybe now I'll be able to read the signs before Kevin can! I'm going to see how good they are at the concert and games later on too.

I was the same way when I got my first pair of glasses (though my eyes were much, much worse -- anything more than like five feet away started being all blurry and whatnot), all surprised that I could suddenly see every leaf on the trees and whatnot, and constantly taking them off to compare my awful normal vision to the new glassy one.
huh?! all this time you couldn't see properly? now honey, if i look completely different to you now after you put your glasses on, just remember you still have to love me :-\ ....
I so do that randomly, I'll look at them with and without and be like woah! Hahaha. But the lit signs and the white bordering, it's so insane how I can finally see it now. Even just today, the dryboard had this faint orange writing and from the desk, I couldn't read what it said, pop on the glasses and crystal clear. But I will only use them when I really need them because I don't want to screw up my eyes for everything.
Dude, as a whole, I could see properly. Just had to be closer for some things and the lit and whiteness just wasn't so clear. These are glasses, not un-beer goggles. Ohhhh giggidy giggidy. JK :)
