A night of sex & violence

It has been quite an amusing night of conversations in class. There was a discussion on teen sexuality about how obviously nowadays it's more frequent and occurs earlier on. Well the prof brings up the topic of "friends with benefits." There was this one older woman (I'm guessing late 40's into her early 50's), she had the most confused look on her face. She seriously had no idea what that meant and all of us tried to explain to her that basically you have a friend that you have no intention of being with, and you just have sex with them, no strings attached. Seeing the shocked & disgusted look on her face was so hilarious, I just couldn't believe that she had never heard of it! Afterwards, somehow someone questioned whether video games/shows with violence actually promote it among children. A lot of people felt that cartoony violence was okay, like stuff from 3 stooges or Home Alone antics. Well the prof brings up a show that his son used to love watching but he always felt that it was a bad influence. Get this, he loved to watch Texas Ranger!! I was so amazed, I thought I was the only one with the guilty pleasure of watching that show...it's so lame that it's great. The prof believed that it was a negative show because it demonstrated that it's alright for police officers to kick the crap out of people when they could have just stabilized them with scaring them with a gun. He was like, "Funny how all the villians and cops just happened to know kung-fu!" Seriously, I thought that was the best part, that Chuck Norris would hi-yah them all! I don't see anything wrong with that, it wasn't like he was going around kicking everyone's ass, it was just bad guys and damn straight it's okay to kick the crap outta them.
